The MFL MarMac boys basketball team will kick off its season Friday at South Winneshiek and, according to head coach Eric Dettbarn, there’s a lot to be excited about.
“What has me most excited about this group is the potential we have,” shared Dettbarn, now in his 32nd year at the helm. “If we come in with the mentality that the team comes first, and play with great effort night in and night out, we have the chance to have a very good year.”
MFL MarMac returns an experienced group of players, including juniors Cedrick Drahn, Tyler Kurth and Gavin Hertrampf, who were all in the starting lineup last year. Senior Sam Koeller, juniors Caden Stuckman and Kaleb Tilson, and sophomore Cayden Ball also played meaningful minutes a season ago.
“Those seven, along with varsity newcomers Beau Benzing and Spencer Larson, I am expecting big contributions from this year,” said Dettbarn.
In addition to experienced, Dettbarn noted the Bulldogs should also be a good ball-handling and shooting team.
“Going into this year, the area we need to see a major improvement in, if we want to have a good season, is on the defensive end of the floor,” he stated.
