By Zoey Hyde
The MFL MarMac baseball team improved to 11-4 after a busy week with a doubleheader against North Fayette Valley and match ups against Decorah, Kee High, and Edgewood-Colesburg.
The team had a clean sweep against NFV on June 3 before falling to Decorah just the next day. Kee High defeated the Bulldogs on June 6 but they were able to make a comeback on Friday and defeat Ed-Co 13-3.
It was a team effort in MFL MarMac’s Upper Iowa Conference doubleheader against North Fayette Valley on Monday June 3. Ben Krambeer led the team with four hits, three runs, and seven RBIs in his four at bats. Parker Kuehl also put up impressive stats with two hits, four runs, and two stolen bases. But it was the performance of the whole team that helped secure the win against North Fayette Valley. Jaxon Millage, Brayden Gordon, and Jaron Wille each had two hits with six RBIs between the three of them. Nick Krambeer performed on the mound for the Bulldogs, only allowing four hits and striking out a total of six batters in four innings. Carver Blietz-Bentien and Dustin Larson both secured one hit and one run each to defeat North Fayette Valley 18-3. In the second game of the night North Fayette Valley fell with a score of 20-0. Bryce Radloff pitched five innings allowing zero runs and only five hits. Blietz-Bentien led the Bulldogs with five hits and five RBIs in his five at bats. Blietz-Bentien also successfully stole two bases followed by Kuehl with one stolen base. Kuehl also put four hits and six RBIs on the board in his five at bats.
The bulldogs visited Decorah only a day after their varsity double header against North Fayette Valley. Decorah held the Bulldogs to three while scoring seven runs. Both Kuehl and Ben Krambeer appeared on the pitching mound allowing a combined nine hits. Gordon managed three hits with two RBIs followed by Kuehl with two hits. Five different Bulldogs were able to put down hits with a combined total of eight hits for the Bulldogs. The team also stole four bases and had minimal fielding errors.
The Bulldogs had a tough fight when they visited Kee High in New Albin on June 6. The Bulldogs allowed Kee to score only one run in the third inning, but were unfortunately held at zero runs by the Kee Hawks. The team was able to get two hits with each Jacob Schellhorn and Radloff making contact. Schellhorn allowed only three hits while on the mound for the Bulldogs. The team had zero errors in the field proving they played well through the match up with Kee High.
Finally Friday the Bulldogs faced Edgewood-Colesburg on their home turf where the Bulldogs defeated Ed-Co 3-13. Kade Humble and Milage both appeared on the mound for the Bulldogs with Humble allowing three hits and one run, and Millage allowing zero hits and two runs.
Blietz-Bentien had three hits, one of which being a homerun, in the game against Ed-Co. He also secured five runs batted in followed by Larson, Radloff, and Carter Lightfoot each with one RBI.
