River Ridge Volleyball sweeps Benton

In their only match action of the week, the River Ridge volleyball team picked up their first conference win last Tuesday night with a 3-0 sweep of host Benton.

With the victory, coach Dianne Langmeier’s squad improved to 1-4 in Six Rivers West conference action, while Benton fell to 0-5 with the loss. Following convincing victories of 25-7 and 25-8 in the first two sets, River Ridge closed out the match with a 25-20 victory in the third set, making short work of the Zephyrs.

Maya Drone finished the match with a team- high seven kills, followed by Alix Goeke and Reghan Zinkle with five each. Zinkle also had a team-high four blocks, while Goeke had three, and Drone also served up two aces in the win.

Mallory Crubel dished out a team-high 12 assists for the Timberwolves, while Josey Drone had a team-high eight digs, followed closely by Ellaina Gage with seven.

Following this past Tuesday night’s match with visiting Cassville, the Timberwolves travel to Potosi Thursday night, then will host Highland on Monday, Sept. 30.
