Warrior volleyball team scores decisive victory over Postville

Homecoming week provided the Central volleyball team with a bit of a break, with only one match on the schedule. The Warriors took on the Postville Pirates in a home match, and in a showcase of teamwork, were able to dominate all three sets, 25-13, 25-8 and 25-7.
“The team played cohesively, demonstrating strong communication and execution on the court, continuing their solid performance as the season progresses,” said coach Kelly Erickson.
The Warriors continued to hit their goal of 90 percent serving, as Brylee Erickson went 20 for 22 with 10 aces and Tori Sylvester served 13 of 14 with five aces.
Coach Erickson said, “Their strong serving was a key factor in the team’s dominant performance.”
Several players stepped up offensively, including Tori Sylvester with nine kills, followed by Oakley Armstrong with eight. Reese Berns added six kills, and Tessa Sylvester and Alivia Wiley each contributed five. Katie Royer had a series high 33 assists, along with two kills, four aces and four digs.
Defensively, Armstrong led the team with eight digs, followed by Erickson with seven and Tori Sylvester six.
“Their defensive efforts were key in maintaining control throughout the match against Postville,” Erickson said. “The Central volleyball team delivered an all-around dominant performance in their home match against Postville.”
The Warriors are now 3-2 in Upper Iowa Conference play and will remain at home this week. They played South Winneshiek on Oct. 8, then will host West Central on Oct. 10.
