February 19, 1956–October 10, 2024

Mary Jo Johnsrude, age 68, Wauzeka, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on Feb. 19, 1956, daughter of the late Louis and Anita (Check) Steger. Mary Jo married the love of her life, Stephen Johnsrude on Nov. 13, 1976, and they were blessed with two children.

Steve and Mary Jo were Dairy farmers in the Marrietta Township since the mid 1980’s. Mary was also employed by FINL, SkyView DBS and was with People State Bank until retiring in 2022.

Mary Jo was an exceptional example of being community minded, with a servant’s heart. Her smile beamed with love for others.

She was active in Crawford County with Farm Bureau, Friends of the Fair, Dairy Breakfast committee for many years and served as a Fair Judge for surrounding counties. She served as a 4-H Leader for the Rolling Hills 4-H Club for 19 years. Mary Jo was an active member of her church serving in many different capacities over the years including The Irish Singers and the choir.

Mary Jo was an avid reader and puzzler. She enjoyed thrifting, craft shows, concerts, traveling, cake decorating and taking care of her pets. She was an amazing homemaker and prided herself on making everyone feel welcome. If there was a need in the community, she would be the first to volunteer to help.  Her children and grandchildren were the greatest joy of her life. Her last wishes to help others was realized by her being an organ donor.

Mary Jo is survived by her husband Stephen Johnsrude; children, Tristan (Laura) Johnsrude, of West Salem, and Sara Diaz, of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Noah, Grace and Ava Johnsrude and DeAngelo Diaz. She is also survived by siblings, Edward (Donna) Steger, of Prairie du Chien; Carol (Neal) Davis of Harpers Ferry, Iowa; Timmothy (Char) Steger, of Prairie du Chien; Terence Steger, of Prairie du Chien; and Theresa (Dan) Brandes, of Ferryville, along with many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her sister Margaret Steger and her parents.

Mary Jo’s family would like to express their gratitude to Gunderson Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit, especially Venki Paramesh, Prem Rabindra and supportive medical staff who cared for her with great effort.
