By Shelia Tomkins
The Guttenberg Chamber of Commerce will kick off the Christmas season on Saturday, Nov. 30, with fun family events, including the annual Merchant Open House, a German Market, parade, and more. The event coincides with "Small Business Saturday," a nationwide observance to promote hometown shopping.
Participating merchants will be offering special sales, refreshments and door prizes that day as they welcome customers shopping for the holidays.
The Chamber has lined up the following family events:
•Youngsters can visit with Mr. and Mrs. Claus at the former Masonic Temple building on Pearl Street from noon to 3 p.m. There will be sweet treats and goodies, and a photo op with a sleigh.
•Free activities for youngsters will include face painting and crafting from noon to 4 p.m. inside the Welcome Center at 323 S. River Park Drive.
•Don't miss the German Market vendor show with many offerings for your holiday gift list. The vendor show will be located outdoors on South River Park Drive. In case of bad weather, it will be held at the Guttenberg Municipal Building. There will also be a drink truck and a children's dance performance.
•There will be a "Giving Tree" at the Welcome Center. Visitors can leave a gift that day or grab a gift tag to make a donation later at the Welcome Center or the Resource Center.
Parade
A holiday evening parade will be held in downtown Guttenberg at dusk when it begins to grow dark, approximately 5 p.m. . This is the third year for the popular event.
Decorate your golf cart, vehicles, floats, etc. to join in the fun. No pre-registration is needed.
Entries should start lining up in order of arrival at Clayton Ridge School in late afternoon, prior to the start of the parade. The route will travel south on River Park Drive to the municipal marina.
