Mark wanted to serve his country and enlisted in the Army in 1964. He was later sent overseas to fight in the Vietnam War, where he earned the Bronze Service Star, Rifle Sharpshooter, National Defense Service Medal, Campaign Medal, and the Overseas Service Bar.

Upon returning home, he had several different jobs but always ended up with his love of farming. He met his wife, Shirley (Jane) Horstman, and was married in Garber on June 8, 1974. They purchased a farm by Millville, and he started working for Clayton County, driving a maintainer. In 1983, they were blessed with their daughter, Stacy. As time passed, Mark retired from the county and they moved back to where their story started, in Garber.

Mark passed his time working on cars, mowing the lawn, reading westerns, and playing with his dog, Snuggles. He enjoyed teaching his grandkids how to fix things, passing on valuable life lessons along the way.

Mark is survived by his daughter, Stacy (Cody Schroeder); grandchildren, Trevor, Cayden, and Alexis; brother, Hayden “Ralph” Davies; four sisters, Doris Hardt, Maryls (Richard) Kayser, Susie (Owen) Sylvester, and Cheryl (Dale) Scott; friend, Mary; several nieces and nephews; and many family members and friends who his life touched throughout the years.
