Timberwolf runners begin season at Darlington

The River Ridge boys’ and girls’ cross country teams participated in their first meet of the season last Saturday at the Darlington Invitational. While the boys did not have enough members to compete as a team, the girls finished seventh of 12 teams with a score of 169.

On the girls’ side, the host Redbirds took the team title with a score of 45, finishing 34 points ahead of second-place Lancaster.

The top individual finisher was Lancaster sophomore Maddie Driscoll with a time of 19:02.3.
 
Leading the River Ridge girls with a 10th place finish was sophomore Alix Van Butsele with a time of 21:09.1. She was followed by freshman Lindsay Burmeister in 24th (22:39.4), junior McKenzie Taylor in 40th (24:04.4), junior Chloe West in 52nd (25:54.2) and sophomore Eden Thornton in 56th (26:09.5).
 
On the boys’ side, Southwestern/Benton sophomore Josh Richardson finished first of 102 competitors with his time of 17:13.3.

Leading the River Ridge boys was senior Mason Pecinovsky with a time of 21:06.2, followed by fellow senior Luke Breuer in 81st (22:42.2) and sophomore Bryce Mason in 96th (25:29.8).
 
Following this past Tuesday’s meet at Boscobel, coach Shane Sperle’s Timberwolves will compete at Spring Green on Saturday.
