MFL MarMac’s Legacy Show Choir is preparing to take the stage for the 2026 season.
This year’s group includes a lot of experience, with six seniors between the choir and show band. Students have been working together for years in and out of the show choir, so the senior leadership is especially strong, noted director Bethany Engen.
“We have four people that are entirely new to show choir, so they have a lot of upperclassmen to help them through the season,” she added.
Legacy began preparing for the season in August, picking up speed in December and January. The first choreography camp was in October, and members have focused on repetition and cleaning in rehearsals that followed. Practices are held three mornings per week for about an hour.
This year’s show is themed “Lights Let Legends Live Louder,” and was designed by choreographer Jordan Webster-Moore.
“The music has been arranged with Nashville-based composer Garrett Breeze. A costume committee has chosen the costumes,” Engen said.
Legacy will kick off its competition season on Monday, Feb. 9 at the IHSMA State Show Choir Festival. The event will be held at MFL MarMac this year.
“It is exciting to be asked to host the State Show Choir Festival,” Engen said. “We were chosen because of our central location and beautiful auditorium facility. We are humbled to host visiting schools. We wish all the show choirs competing the best of luck.”
The State Show Choir Festival is open to the public. It will run from 6 to 8 p.m. in the MFL MarMac High School Auditorium, in Monona. Admission is cashless via Bound.
Other upcoming Legacy performance dates include the Grand River Invitational at La Crosse Central on Feb. 14, MFL MarMac High School Pops Concert at 7 p.m. on Feb. 17, Marion Masquerade at Marion High School on Feb. 28 and Red Carpet Gala at West Delaware on March 7.
