River Ridge girls first at Iowa-Grant

Competing at the Iowa-Grant Holiday Tournament last Saturday, coach Veronica Zinkle and her River Ridge girls basketball team went 2-0 with victories over North Crawford and Iowa-Grant.
With a 45-27 victory over the Trojans, and a 62-18 victory over the Panthers, coach Zinkle’s squad improved to 7-2 on the season coming out of the holiday break.

PdC boys swept at Winona State

The Prairie du Chien boys basketball team entered their annual holiday tournament last week looking for their first victory of the season but were sent home empty handed. 
First up for the Hawks last Thursday afternoon was the Chatfield Gophers and they defeated the Hawks 79-39. 
The Plainview-Elgin-Millville Bulldogs were the Hawks second and final opponent and they defeated PdC 61-31 last Friday morning.

North Crawford/Seneca senior wrestler Jaren Grimsled earned a sixth place finish in his final Bi-State Classic appearance at last weekend’s tournament. Grimsled went 5-3 at 113 pounds to earn his first career top-12 placement at the event. 
Grimsled earned wins over Cashton’s Cyprian Klein, Bay Port’s Riley Holewinski, Waunakee’s Brett Farrell, Wrightstown’s Easton Felchlin and Goodhue’s Lucas Erickson. His three losses were to Dodgeville’s Shane Rochon (defending D2 state champion and 2023 Bi-State champ), Orono’s Brett Kiecker and Hastings’ Beckett Edstrom. Grimsled’s season record now stands at 24-6.

Royals go 1-1 at River Ridge

The Seneca Royals boys basketball team competed in the River Ridge Tournament last Saturday and went 1-1 on the day to claim consolation championship honors.
Seneca opened the day with the host Timberwolves and were dealt a tough 71-40 loss from a very tough River Ridge squad. 
The loss pushed the Royals to a consolation championship against the St. Ambrose Academy Guardians of Madison. The Guardians were beaten 72-44 by Iowa-Grant in their first game of the tournament.

Possible changes to SWC in the next few years

The landscape of Southwest Wisconsin high school activities may change radically in the next few years.
The Southwest Wisconsin Conference is proposing to expand by taking four schools from the Southwest Wisconsin Activities League, with the other four schools moving to three other area conferences.

Lindelee “Lynne” Mary Jenkins

August 11, 1960–December 7, 2024

Lindelee “Lynne” Mary Jenkins, 64, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Gundersen Health Systems in La Crosse, Wisconsin after a short battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 11, 1960, to Delbert and Lillian Jenkins. Lynne graduated from MFL High School with the class of 1978.
