Seneca boys extend winning streak

The Seneca Royals boys basketball team sent out 2024 the same way they welcomed in 2025: with hard fought victories. 
The Royals wrapped up 2024 last Monday, Dec. 30, when they hosted the Cassville Comets. The two teams played to a 27-27 tie at halftime before the Royals pulled away in the second half for a 68-56 win. Four players scored in double figures for Seneca: Dawson Davidson (16 points), Reggie George (15 points), Briar Wall (11 points) and Gage Wall (10 points).

The Prairie du Chien girls basketball team traveled to Lancaster last Friday night and came away with a 54-35 road victory. The box score was not available at press time. 
Prairie du Chien improved to 13-0 overall and 3-0 in the SWC with the victory while Lancaster dropped to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the SWC. The Hawks face another formidable SWC opponent this Thursday night when they host Dodgeville. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Barneveld girls stop River Ridge

A 29-8 halftime deficit at Barneveld proved to be too much for coach Veronica Zinkle and her River Ridge girls basketball team to overcome, as they suffered a 53-37 loss to the host Eagles last Thursday night.
Counting towards their conference record, the Timberwolves fell to 2-3 in league play and 7-3 overall with the loss, while Barneveld improved to 4-1, 8-3.

The Wauzeka-Steuben Hornets boys basketball team opened up the new year last Thursday night by hosting the Ithaca Bulldogs in a game that was originally scheduled for Dec. 19 but postponed due to weather. 
A close, but low scoring first half saw the Hornets jump out to an early 8-2 lead before the Bulldogs slowly worked their way back into the game to take a 14-13 lead with 3:43 remaining in the first half. Ithaca extended their lead to 20-14 before a pair of buckets from both teams in the final 20 seconds of the half gave the visitors a 22-16 lead at the midway point.

Wauzeka-Steuben girls ground Falcons

The Wauzeka-Steuben Hornets girls basketball team displayed few signs of a long lay off in their non-conference game against the Brookwood Falcons last Friday night. Playing for the first time since Dec. 20, the Hornets opened the game by taking a 18-0 lead before the Falcons were finally able to get on the scoreboard with a free throw with 9:08 remaining in the first half. Wauzeka-Steuben would go on to take a 49-10 halftime lead before earning a 67-30 win to improve to 7-1 on the season. Brookwood dropped to 4-6 with the loss.
