Hornet girls beat Ithaca 58-26

The Wauzeka-Steuben girls basketball team had a light week last week, only playing one game thanks to a postponement of last Tuesday’s non-conference game at Brookwood. 
The Hornets welcomed Ithaca to town on Thursday and jumped out to a 33-14 lead at halftime before earning a 58-26 win to improve to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Ridge & Valley Conference. 
The Hornets’ Elizabeth Wright led all scorers with 17 points while teammate Isabella Bunders added 12 points.

Timberwolves stop Cassville, Pecatonica

Once coach Jim Wagner’s Timberwolves got things rolling, there was no stopping them last Tuesday night on their way to a 63-26 victory over the visiting Cassville Comets.
In just the second Six Rivers West conference contest of the season for both teams, the River Ridge boys improved to 2-0 in league play and 4-0 overall with the win, while coach Chad Infield’s Comets fell to 0-2, 0-3 with the loss.
Neither team was exactly burning the nets down to start last Tuesday night’s game.

Hawks stop Onalaska, River Valley

The Prairie du Chien Blackhawks girls basketball team continued their busy early season schedule last week by sweeping a pair of home games.
PdC began the week by hosting the Onalaska Hilltoppers in a non-conference showdown last Tuesday, Dec. 10 and the Hawks earned a 57-39 victory to push their season record to 7-0. Tannah Radloff was the leading scorer for the Hawks with 22 points. Greenlee Krahn added 15 points with Karly Kramer (eight points), Claire Kennedy (five points), Rita Achenbach (four points) and Tessa Czajkowski Higgins (three points) rounding out the scoring tally for Prairie.

Boscobel beats Seneca Girls

The Seneca Royals girls basketball team traveled to Boscobel last Tuesday, Dec. 10 to face the Bulldogs and were handed a 51-29 defeat. 
A complete box score was not available as of press time. The Royals dropped to 1-5 on the season while Boscobel improved to 2-3 overall.
Following last night’s conference game at Kickapoo, the Royals wrap up their week with home games against River Ridge this Thursday and Wauzeka-Steuben on Friday.

River Ridge girls end losing streak

Though visiting Potosi/Cassville had a better shooting percentage from the field than host River Ridge last Thursday night, coach Veronica Zinkle’s Timberwolves took nearly twice as many shots as their opponent, leading to a 45-32 River Ridge victory in Six Rivers West girls basketball action.
For the Timberwolves, it was their first conference win of the season, improving to 1-2 in league play and 4-2 overall. Potosi/Cassville fell to 0-3, 3-3 with the loss.

Timberwolves compete at pair of meets

Last Thursday night, coach Brad Lange and his River Ridge wrestling team traveled to Platteville for a triangular with Belmont/Platteville and Riverdale.
The Timberwolves suffered losses of 48-23 to Riverdale and 71-6 to Belmont/Platteville, having forfeited five weights to the Chieftains and six to Belmont/Platteville.

Hornets take to the mat with Boscobel co-op

Eleven boys and girls wrestlers from Wauzeka-Steuben have been on the mats here at the start of the 2024-25 season as part of their co-op with Boscobel. Seven girls and four boys are participating in the co-op from W-S. 
The girls side features sophomores Tatum Brudos, Alayna Krachey, Lexie Lathrop, Mallory McCullick and Ava Roth and ninth-graders Ali Jelinek and Aaliyah Lathrop. The boys side includes juniors Richard Bryant, Isaac Delgado and Mason Johnson and sophomore Daniel Bryant.

Royals beat De Soto, stopped by North Crawford

The Seneca Royals boys basketball team returned home last week for a pair of conference games. The Royals hosted De Soto on Tuesday, Dec. 10 and took a 28-23 halftime lead before holding off the Pirates in the second half to earn a 61-52 win. The Royals welcomed North Crawford to town three nights later and were defeated 71-66 in a hard fought contest. 
The Royals had four players reach double figures in scoring, including Gage Wall (15 points), Briar Wall (13 points), Dawson Davidson (13 points) and Reggie George (11 points).

W-S boys beat La Farge, lose to De Soto

Looking for their first win of the 2024-25 season last Tuesday, Dec. 10, the Wauzeka-Steuben Boys Basketball had a chance to do so when the La Farge Wildcats came to town and the Hornets came out on top by holding off the visitors for a 51-46 victory. 
The Hornets had seven players score in the game, led by Cooper Lomas’ 14 points and Julius Cooley’s 10 points. Also scoring for the Hornets were Josh Martin and Theodore Millin (seven points each), Brett Wagner (six points), Clint Mitchell (five points)and Kacper Szygenda (two points).

Prairie girls place second

The Prairie du Chien girls wrestling team traveled to the Wisconsin Dells this past Friday night to compete in the Duals in the Dells Girls Tournament and placed second out of 41 teams with 121.0 points. Muskego won the tournament with 149.0 points. 
Britney Petsche claimed the championship of the 185 pound bracket after going 3-0 with pinfall wins over Appleton West’s Maeli Lavache, Portage’s Miya Tool-Fikuda and Muskego’s Sophia Peterson.
