Clayton Ridge School Board approves 2025-26 Calendar with four-day school week

The Clayton Ridge School Board met on May 8 in the high school’s library, where they approved next year’s district calendar.

Superintendent Shane Wahls introduced the calendar proposed for the 2025-26 school year, which outlined the new four-day school schedule.

Don J. Koss

Don J. Koss, 95, of Guttenberg, completed his earthly journey on May 10, 2025, at the Guttenberg Care Center surrounded by his loving family.

To honor Don’s life, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 23, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, with Pastor Gary Hatcher officiating. Family and friends of Don are invited to join in fellowship from 9-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

City of Garnavillo opposes water withdrawal request in letter to DNR

Residents also urge action from supervisors

The city of Garnavillo last week issued a letter to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources in opposition to Pattison Sand Company’s request to triple its current maximum water withdrawal quantity from 976.8 million gallons per year to 3.7 billion.

City council okays change in trash collection schedule

Guttenberg residents will soon see a change in their trash collection schedule. The city council, at its regular monthly meeting on May 12, approved a request from Adam Linden of Kluesner Sanitation to change the weekly trash and recycle collection day from Tuesday to Monday, and to also change half the town's recycle collection to the opposite week.  

Linden told the council that the request comes as a result of the company's plan to expand its operations in the area. He said his company would like to implement the Guttenberg change beginning June 2. The town will be split in half lengthwise with recycle/yard waste collection on alternate weeks.

Michael R. Lehman

Michael “Mike” R. Lehman, 64, of New Vienna passed away Monday, May 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his home following a long battle with cancer.

Visitation was Friday, May 9, at Kramer-Morris Funeral Home in Dyersville and also Saturday before services at the funeral home.

Funeral services were Saturday, May 10, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna, conducted by Rev. Tony Kruse.

Participating organizations included the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), the National FFA and SkillsUSA.

RAGBRAI town hall meeting set for Thursday, May 22

The Guttenberg RAGBRAI committee invites residents and business owners to a town hall meeting to learn first-hand what the local committee has planned for the RAGBRAI weekends of Friday and Saturday, July 18-19, and the big day on Saturday, July 26.

The meeting is planned for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, in the third floor auditorium of the Guttenberg Municipal Building.

Tammy Jo Goodman

Tammy Jo Goodman, 56, of Wauzeka Wis., passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, after fighting cancer with incredible strength, determination, and positivity.

Services will be announced at a later date.

Tammy was born on March 14, 1969, in Boscobel, Wis. to Tanda (Lund) Featherston. She graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1987.
