Blackhawks at Concordia

McDonell Central nips 

PdC boys

McDonell Central nipped Prairie du Chien 46-44 at Concordia University in Mequon in boys basketball action Dec. 30. 

Prairie led 28-25 at the half but McDonell took the second half 21-16 to edge the Blackhawks in the Rick Majerus Wisconsin Basketball Shootout.

Prairie du Chien is now 6-2 on the season.

PdC-WS wrestlers at Bi-State Classic

Beers places seventh, Garcia is twelfth

On Tuesday, Dec. 29 and Wednesday, Dec. 30, the Prairie du Chien grapplers traveled to La Crosse for the 34th Annual Bi-State Classic hosted by Holmen High School at the La Crosse Center. This event puts 58 teams from all divisions together with more than 600 wrestlers from throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota. The Bi-State Classic is one of the toughest holiday tournaments in the midwest. There were 79 wrestlers in the event who competed in the Wisconsin or Minnesota State Tournaments last year; 31 of them were medalists and 8 of them were state champions.

hosts tournament

The River Ridge boys basketball team hosted the River Ridge Tournament in Patch Grove (varsity) and Bloomington (junior varsity) Dec. 30. 

Albany defeated River Ridge 59-31 in the first game in Patch Grove Dec. 30. 

Albany led 33-16 at the half en route to the win.

Blackhawks 

over Hilltoppers

Prairie du Chien got off to a bit of a slow start during the first part of the first half Tuesday night but then came alive to take the lead over visiting Onalaska and eventually won the nonconference match-up 59-53. 

The Blackhawks improved to 6-0 on the season with the win.

Seneca defeated host Wauzeka-Steuben 41-37 in a Ridge and Valley girls basketball game Friday night.

The score was 20-15 in favor of Seneca at the half. Wauzeka-Steuben outscored Seneca 22-21 in the second half but it wasn’t quite enough as Seneca prevailed.

PdC-WS wins championship of Dells Duals Classic

On Saturday, Dec. 12, the Prairie du Chien/Wauzeka-Steuben wrestling team traveled to Wisconsin Dells and the Woodside Sports Complex for the 2015 Dells Duals Classic. There were 30 participating teams split into six evenly matched pools. PdC’s pool consisted of PdC, St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin Dells, Plymouth and Brookfield Central.

Prairie du Chien grapplers fall to MFL Mar/Mac 39-36

On Thursday, Dec. 10, the Prairie du Chien Blackhawk wrestling team traveled to McGregor for a nonconference meet with rival MFL Mar/Mac. MFL Mar/Mac is one of the favorites to win the Upper Iowa Conference this year. As expected, it was a very close meet.

The match started at 120 pounds and MFL recorded a fall. PdC responded by winning the next two matches. Clayton Beers, 126, used a series of tilts before pinning his opponent in the second period. Nick Rogge, 132, followed with a decisive win, 8-2.

The Prairie du Chien Lady Blackhawks lost to the two-time defending Division 4 state champion Cuba City Cubans 48-35 in SWC girls basketball Tuesday night in Prairie du Chien. 

It was a case of two halves for Prairie as the halftime tie of 29-29 was countered by an offensive flurry by Cuba City’s Jessi Marti.

Prairie du Chien got off to a tough start with several passes intercepted early in the game, but the Blackhawks came back to beat the visiting Westby Norsemen 54-44 in nonconference boys basketball Friday night. 

After Prairie calmed down, they were able to finish the first half tied with Westby 21-21.

tops Prairie girls

Crestwood defeated host Prairie du Chien 52-41 in nonconference girls basketball action Tuesday night. 

Prairie du Chien sustained its first loss of the season and fell to 2-1.

The Lady Blackhawks will next host Southwest Wisconsin Conference rival Lancaster on Dec. 3.
