Timberwolves struggle at Lee Griffin

With a perfect record of 3-0, River Ridge sophomore Cael Koenig took top honors in the 144-pound weight class last Saturday at the Lee Griffin Wrestling Invite held at Kickapoo High School.
Koenig, who currently has a season record of 13-6, picked up two pins and a major decision last Saturday to win his weight class and pick up 23 points for the Timberwolves.

Richland Center holds off PdC boys

The Prairie du Chien Boys Basketball team traveled to Richland Center last Friday night looking to break into the win column for the first time this season.
The Hawks nearly did just that as they played the host Hornets close before the hosts pulled away in the final two minutes to claim a 62-52 win. A complete box score was not available at press time. Richland Center improved to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the SWC while the Hawks dropped to 0-9 and 0-2 in the SWC with the loss.

Seneca boys, girls hoop teams win

The Seneca Royals boys and girls basketball teams ended the second week of 2025 with a pair of victories last week. The girls team began the week last Monday, Jan. 6 with a 67-19 non-conference loss to River Ridge. They hosted De Soto the following night and were defeated 52-35 by the Pirates. The Royal girls ended their week on a positive note last Friday night when they earned their second victory of the season with a 56-48 defeat of North Crawford.

River Ridge defeats Highland Cardinals

Despite an off-night from the field, coach Veronica Zinkle and her River Ridge girls basketball team were still able to collect a 38-27 victory over the host Highland Cardinals last Thursday night.
With the win, the Timberwolves improved to 3-3 in Six Rivers West conference action, and 9-3 overall. They follow up this past Tuesday night’s non-conference contest against Wauzeka-Steuben by hosting Juda this Friday evening.

Seneca boys extend winning streak

The Seneca Royals boys basketball team sent out 2024 the same way they welcomed in 2025: with hard fought victories. 
The Royals wrapped up 2024 last Monday, Dec. 30, when they hosted the Cassville Comets. The two teams played to a 27-27 tie at halftime before the Royals pulled away in the second half for a 68-56 win. Four players scored in double figures for Seneca: Dawson Davidson (16 points), Reggie George (15 points), Briar Wall (11 points) and Gage Wall (10 points).

The Prairie du Chien girls basketball team traveled to Lancaster last Friday night and came away with a 54-35 road victory. The box score was not available at press time. 
Prairie du Chien improved to 13-0 overall and 3-0 in the SWC with the victory while Lancaster dropped to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the SWC. The Hawks face another formidable SWC opponent this Thursday night when they host Dodgeville. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Barneveld girls stop River Ridge

A 29-8 halftime deficit at Barneveld proved to be too much for coach Veronica Zinkle and her River Ridge girls basketball team to overcome, as they suffered a 53-37 loss to the host Eagles last Thursday night.
Counting towards their conference record, the Timberwolves fell to 2-3 in league play and 7-3 overall with the loss, while Barneveld improved to 4-1, 8-3.

The Wauzeka-Steuben Hornets boys basketball team opened up the new year last Thursday night by hosting the Ithaca Bulldogs in a game that was originally scheduled for Dec. 19 but postponed due to weather. 
A close, but low scoring first half saw the Hornets jump out to an early 8-2 lead before the Bulldogs slowly worked their way back into the game to take a 14-13 lead with 3:43 remaining in the first half. Ithaca extended their lead to 20-14 before a pair of buckets from both teams in the final 20 seconds of the half gave the visitors a 22-16 lead at the midway point.

Wauzeka-Steuben girls ground Falcons

The Wauzeka-Steuben Hornets girls basketball team displayed few signs of a long lay off in their non-conference game against the Brookwood Falcons last Friday night. Playing for the first time since Dec. 20, the Hornets opened the game by taking a 18-0 lead before the Falcons were finally able to get on the scoreboard with a free throw with 9:08 remaining in the first half. Wauzeka-Steuben would go on to take a 49-10 halftime lead before earning a 67-30 win to improve to 7-1 on the season. Brookwood dropped to 4-6 with the loss.
